Need Help? If you have a technical question, having a problem with one of our systems or just need a hand setting something up then please give us a call. You can find our contact details on the contact page. However, we have provided settings, details and instructions on how to use some of our system below.

Email Settings

The following settings are required when creating a new mail account in your email client (Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc). We recommend that you use Mozilla Thunderbird.

  • Incoming mail server: mail.async.co.nz
  • Incoming mail server type: IMAP or POP3 (your choice - we recommend turning on "Secure SSL connection" as well)
  • Incoming mail server username: your full email adress
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.async.co.nz (see note below about ISP port blocking)
  • Outgoing mail server requires authentication: yes
  • Outgoing mail server username: your full email address
  • Outgoing mail server password: the same one used for your incoming mail
  • Webmail: http://webmail.async.co.nz
  • Email control panel: http://mail.async.co.nz:8080 (use the login details in My Account)

ISP blocking outgoing mail?

Some ISPs are blocking all outgoing SMTP connections to servers outside of their network (ie, when you try and send an email through the mail.async.co.nz server). In this case you will most likely need to use their outgoing mail server settings. See their website for the necessary settings to configure your outgoing mail server

IMAP or POP3?

By default, a POP3 account will download any new emails off the server and store them locally on your computer. This is the most common configuration and is good for most situations. However, if you wish to be able to access your emails from multiple computers, phones, consoles and webmail then you probably want to create an IMAP (sometimes referred to as IMAP4) account instead. This means that your computer just connects to the server and lists what is available. Clicking on an email will load the contents for you to view without actually removing it from the server. With this setup you can still view all new/existing email from other devices.
